This performance was created after an invitation from Mathieu Guillaume, Artistic Director of the Chilean National Ballet. 8.8 Richter degrees was the magnitude of the earthquake that struck Chile for more than 3,34 minutes on February 27, 2010.
This peace for 8 dancers works over the idea of the extremely powerful collision and energy release in an earthquake and how to transfer this energy in the dancers dynamics. The creation was structured in a set of three minutes sequences to evoke the time frame of that natural event.
The dramaturgy of the piece evolves from the cotidanity of tha dancer routine building a progression towards the extraordinary external force of an earthquake. It puts in question the place of humanity in the way of constructive society that challenge the natural forces in a hyper-mediated world.
